Welcome to Altered Vistas
Star Tigers - Chapter One AV21

This two-part release has been produced with the blessing and full cooperation of Steve Moore, original writer of the Doctor Who Weekly Star Tigers comic strip.

Star Tigers Chapter One AV21

This follow up strip to the hugely popular Abslom Daak - Dalek Killer sees the Daleks’ other greatest enemy heading into Draconian space in an attempt to find help for Princess Taiyin. There, he is taken under the wing of Prince Salander, noble of the Draconian royal court, but their association leads them both into a web of intrigue, bribery, corruption and jealousy that will inevitably end in tragedy.

Below is a selection of images from the production.

The Emperor suspected he might have blown the largest bubblegum bubble ever, but if it burst he was going to be in a pretty pickle...

The Emperor of Draconia stood charged with living his life in a bubble, immune to the cares and concerns of his people. It was a charge he hotly refuted...

Axiron was deeply jealous of Salander's glittery new collar. He knew he shouldn't have worn the studs...

Axiron is less than impressed with Salander’s opinions on the defence of the realm. Much better to ignore Dalek-shaped threats and hope they go away...

Ah ha me sssssship mates!

General Karinis never liked the Emperor’s fancy dress balls. He always felt such a pillock dressed as a pirate.

Watching the match on the big screen was always so much better than on his portable set...

Salander, Karinis and one of the Emperor’s messengers stare at a big screen. But what could be on that big screen?

72 minutes in to DMP. Only another 228 minutes to go...

Of course. It was an unexpected screening of The Daleks’ Master Plan. They had now been standing up for several hours...

Karinis and Salander were amazed to find they had won the final of Stars In Their Eyes. Who'd have thought their Kylie and Jason would have been so popular?

Salander and Karinin head out to the spaceport to meet the mysterious pilot of an equally mysterious spaceship. Wonder who it could be...

Daak was completely redesigned for this new production to take advantage of advances in character design

Oh look! What a huge surprise! It’s Abslom Daak!

In the strip, Daak wears a very fetching bed gown. I couldn't imagine him arriving with this and it certainly didn't look very Draconian, so I dispensed with it.

Sleeping on the job...

Daak's first job interview did not go well...

The Immigration Office, one of my favourite sets from the production, thanks to that large, circular window.

Would the promotion and pay rise never arrive? Bob was beginning to have his doubts...

The Immigration Officer - proving that self-important ‘job’s worths’ exist all across the universe.

'You're working very late, Censor Pralis. But my, how lovely your scales look by the light of a Draconian moon...'

Axiron pays a late night visit to Censor Pralis. Much drinking and gambling ensued...

So he'd sat on a box of drawing pins. He decided to brazen it out and hope no-one had noticed...

Censor Pralis was always worryingly pleased to see his old chum Axiron...

The fool is sitting on a box of drawing pins, thought Axiron, I'll keep him talking for six hours.

Axiron preferred a more understated display of pleasure.

Doctor Zorynx was sure he could cure it... if only he could see it. Where had he left his reading glasses today?

Doctor Zorynx in typically cheerful mood. I imagine his patients are always delighted to see him...

Those kids playing on his lawn were in for a nasty surprise, thought Daak, with a wry smile...

This was actually the first set built for Star Tigers, and the first sequence animated too. It made a nice change to be animating something more naturalistic .

As the Dalek mines exploded, Daak was gratified to see that, whilst the kids had been vapourised, his lawn was undamaged.

Salander was disappointed that his house guest hadn’t even commented on the pair of ornate antique hatstands he had recently purchased. Some people had no taste...

Daak was impressed; Salander had the biggest garage he had ever seen...

The Killwagon in its hangar.

It was moments later that the paper screen he was leaning against collapsed...

Abslom Daak in one of his calmer moments...

Confronted by an armed psycho with a grudge, the Emperor tried hard to contain his bladder...

The Draconian Emperor receives a visit. He doesn’t look best pleased...

Very pleased with the lighting on this shot. Sorry, nothing funny to say.

The space yacht blasts off for a rendezvous with the Killwagon.
